Just a quicky, because it is late and I am super tired.
Before I go to bed, I usually check my Facebook and emails real quick. So someone on my Facebook, who I like very much, was talking about Christmas season in the states and about saying “Happy Holiday” instead of “Happy Christmas”.
So this post goes out to both Christians and non-Christians:
The Christmas season is a time that you should enjoy. Can you please just leave your big egos in a hidden box way in the back of some closet? Pretty please with sugar on top?
Do you understand how stupid your arguments about this phrasing is?
@ Christians: Please understand that you are not being persecuted. No one is taking Christmas away from you. No one is hurting you. At least not by saying “Happy Holiday”. If this is such a big deal for you, please check on yourself, because it seems that you are very insecure if you can freak out over this phrase. Just enjoy the time. Be with your family and friends, eat well, gain weight, sing songs, watch movies, build a snow man… Because that’s what this time is for. If you need to go to church in order to feel the “christmas spirit” and so you Christmas feels complete to you, please do so, but just do not pretend you are in anyway better or superior to anybody who acts different.
@ Non-Christians: Just stop trying to argue Christians out of their holiday. Yes, you are right, Christmas is an old pagan festivity and has been hijacked by Christianity. But don’t stuff it down their throat. Just like you, they want to enjoy the time. Don’t insist on your favorite way of phrasing. Nod, say yes, smile, “you too”. Avoid the whole thing altogether and get on with your live. Just enjoy the time. Be with your family and friends, eat well, gain weight, sing songs, watch movies, build a snow man… Because that’s what this time is for.
Now bring the holiday season on, because now we are prepared.
